Zvonimir Durcevic
Zvonimir assists organizations on their transformation journeys in his role of an enterprise agile coach at TechTalk GmbH. He is passionate about Agile because he believes in people, their strengths, and innate resourcefulness. He firmly believes that people want to grow and excel in what they are doing and that creating an environment where people can self-organize and self-actualize is the primary responsibility of leaders on all levels. Since he first encountered Agile, he became deeply connected to agile values and principles (as stated in the manifesto for agile software development). In his opinion, they hold the key to understanding what Agile is all about.
Zvonimir has more than 16 years of experience in agile delivery, improving the value delivery capabilities of organizations and teams.
His journey to becoming an enterprise agile coach has had several stations where he gathered valuable experience in organizations as big as a few people and those with thousands of people. Working as a manager, he experienced firsthand the difference between management and leadership. And in addition, he realized that his passion lies in supporting the growth of people through his role as an agile coach.

What you will get
- Shaping the ubiquitous language around all three pillars of DDD
- Collaborating about strategic DDD on the green- or brownfield
- Enabling team autonomy and responsibility for models and components
- Exploring project strategy and prioritizing epics and user stories
- Aligning mental models (not only) in a context of Event Sourcing & CQRS
- Defining and refining system behavior with Specification by Example
- Designing business processes and sagas using four message types
Impressions

"In a world of 1000 methods, Martin Schimak has managed to filter out the right ones, and even to improve them."
Angela Rumpl, kununu.com
Course Details
01 Target Audience
This workshop is really aimed at three groups – in no particular order:
- Tech-savvy domain experts who are interested in better software projects
- Agile business analysts who are interested in lightweight modeling methods
- Software developers and architects who are interested in domain experts
02 Prerequisites
- As a business stakeholder: a genuine interest in fundamental properties of software
- As a software engineer: a genuine interest in understanding a business or new domain
- Recommended: some work experience with cross-functional, Agile environments
03 Schedule
Together we will work with Domain Storytelling, Event Storming, Context Mapping, Impact Mapping, User Story Mapping, Event Modeling and Example Mapping. We will examine how such methods can be applied using the colors and building blocks defined with Storystorming and visually connect the dots.
In our first six sessions you will experience how to
- Explore important domain scenarios with Domain Storytelling
- Discover a big picture of your domain with Event Storming
- Make the implicit power of definition explicit with Context Mapping
- Manage your backlog with Impact Mapping and User Story Mapping
- Design user journeys and software systems with Event Modeling
- Refine user stories and acceptance criteria with Example Mapping
We will then spend two sessions exploring the important but often neglected topic of
- Modeling (semi-) automated business processes and sagas
Using the four message types defined with Storystorming (which are based on the sentence types of human language), we will design a multi-step service collaboration and examine the options we have for autonomy and coupling in the software and in our organization.

Martin Schimak
At the age of ten Martin fell in love with coding. A few years later he left his love and studied business and law. But only to find out: that’s awesome knowledge for designing business software! In the more than 15 years since then he talked to energy traders, telecom people, wind tunnel experts and many others.
This collaboration formed a hands-on domain “decoder” with a passion for Domain-Driven Design (DDD) and a soft spot for colored sticky notes! Martin is a trainer with experience in 50+ companies and 10+ countries. He regularly speaks at meetups and conferences across Europe and from time to time in the US.
05 Format
Each session lasts around 90+ minutes and will consist of knowledge transfer, a hands-on whiteboard activity, and time for questions and discussions.
Each participant receives all of the material shown by the trainer as a handout for personal use.

Automated Acceptance Testing and Story- Driven Development
One of the cornerstones of modern, effective software development is effective automated testing. Continuous Delivery in particular is rooted in this practice.
Sign Up now
Course Objectives
Would you like to find out how to reduce bug-counts in production by nearly two orders of magnitude?
This course will explore an approach to development led by testing that includes the creation of “Executable Specifications” for the software that we create, automated tests that specify the behavioural intent of the code that we will write. Ideas based on a holistic Behaviour Driven Design (BDD) approach that can result in significantly higher quality software produced at a faster rate.
What you will get
- Practice and understand the identification, creation and use of “Acceptance Tests” in the form of “Executable Specifications” to define the behaviour of a system.
- Demonstrate the link between an effective, story-based, approach to requirements and practice the skills to map from story to Acceptance Test.
- Practice the skills of effective story-writing using a combination of “Story Mapping” and “Specification by Example” techniques.
- Understand how to create and develop a “Domain Specific Language” to support the creation and maintenance of “Executable Specifications”
- Understand some of the techniques used to isolate the system under test and allow for the creation of effective, efficient test cases in complex systems.
- Build Acceptance Tests, Executable Specifications, that are not compromised by changes in the system under test.

04 Training Introduction
05 Schedule Modul 1
24 March
1. Modul: Introduction to Approval Testing
- Test cases check actual program output against a previously approved value, and any difference will fail the test.
- Normally, a human inspects and approves some actual program output when creating a test case.
- Raw program output may be processed into a more convenient format before being used for approval and comparison.
- Design a Printer to display complex objects, instead of many assertions.
- If actual program output is not yet available, the approved value may be a manual sketch of the expected output.
- Approved values are stored separately from the source code for the test case, although in the same VCS repository.
- When a test case fails, you can use a tool to inspect the differences and easily update the approved value.
06 Schedule Modul 2 & 3
31 March
2. Modul: Using Coverage and Combinations with Legacy Code
- Using coverage to identify missing test cases
- Using Combinations to increase confidence
- Work through some exercises adding tests to legacy code using the ‘Approvals’ tool

02 Key Learning Points
This workshop is based on our books Fifty Quick Ideas To Improve Your User Stories, Impact Mapping and years of experience helping teams deliver better software. After the workshop, you will know how to:
- Fight a huge backlog with 500 crap stories
- Prioritise with multiple competing stakeholders
- Avoid a user story stream of consciousness and create a big picture for prioritisation
- Establish a good reporting structure on outcomes rather than just monitoring velocity and activity
- Get agreement from the whole team and the business sponsors about which user stories are useful and which are just noise
- Enable business sponsors to benefit from flexible scope and avoid water-scrum-fall
- Effectively prioritise based on value
- Avoid pet features
- Run impact mapping sessions
- Split the ‘unsplittable’ stories, and ensure that work items are small but actually still valuable
- Avoid getting stuck in ‘technical stories’
- Run user story mapping session
03 Schedule
Day 1 morning
- how to effectively work with a large existing backlog of stories (story card hell) with multiple competing stakeholders
- how to capture and describe real value with small user stories that just contribute to a larger picture
- how to measure progress better than with just story points and avoid mistaking activity for success
Day 1 afternoon
- how to avoid water-scrum-fall where too many things need to come together to make a release and it’s not easy to come up with small but valuable chunks
- how impact mapping can help facilitate the discussion around value and success
- how to run impact mapping sessions
- how to use impact maps to align competing stakeholders and for product discovery
Day 2 morning
- how to get good feedback from users and how to avoid misleading feedback
- how to split the stories that are too big but difficult to slice
- how to avoid technical stories
Day 2 afternoon
- how to incorporate results of user research into release planning
- how to use story maps to plan releases for larger pieces of work, when there is significant risk in releasing the wrong product so iterative improvements are not an option
- how to facilitate story mapping workshops and avoid the most common problems with them
