Hands-On AI Agent Engineering

A one-day workshop for software engineers who use AI tools and want the quality to match the speed

Hands-On AI Agent Engineering

Course Description

You already use AI coding tools. The output is faster. The reviews are longer. Something in the codebase feels slightly out of control and you cannot point to the commit where it shifted. That is not a tool problem. It is a collaboration problem — and it has a solution.

What changes after this day

You will leave with real artefacts committed to your actual repository: a convention inventory, a version-controlled HARNESS.md with enforced constraints, and two garbage collection rules wired into your CI pipeline. Not slides. Not notes. Things that run on Monday morning.

More importantly, you will understand why the quality drift happens — the three silent debts that AI-assisted development accumulates faster than any review process was designed to catch — and you will have a systematic approach to stopping it.

Target audience

Who is this training for?

Target Audience Software Engineer

Experienced software engineers

who already use AI coding tools and care about what the codebase looks like in a year. You do not need to be from the same team or company — the day works across 8–12 practitioners from different organisations, and cross-team pairing turns out to be one of the most valuable parts. Bring your own project. Bring the messy one. The exercises are designed to run against real code, not a demo.

The day in brief

Hands-On AI Agent Engineering

Five sessions. Lunch and coffee breaks. Every session paired with a hands-on exercise applied to your codebase.

  • Welcome, tooling check, honest self-assessment
  • The amplifier thesis and prompting as translation
  • The trust protocol — red-teaming AI output
  • Convention extraction and harness construction
  • Lunch (provided by TechTalk)
  • Garbage collection, observability, cost discipline
  • 30-day plan and Q&A

Every time a session ends, the AI agent forgets everything — your conventions, your decisions, the production incident that reshaped your error-handling strategy. Without a harness, you are perpetually introducing a brilliant stranger to your codebase. The harness is how you stop that.

The waterfall debate isn’t dead. It just changed shape. When AI entered software engineering, it brought with it the oldest metaphor in the industry: the factory. Developers prompt. AI produces. Code ships. Faster, cheaper, more. The conveyor belt is back, and this time it’s powered by something that sounds like it understands you. (… Read more)
