Course Description

You already use AI coding tools. The output is faster. The reviews are longer. Something in the codebase feels slightly out of control and you cannot point to the commit where it shifted. That is not a tool problem. It is a collaboration problem — and it has a solution.

What changes after this day

You will leave with real artefacts committed to your actual repository: a convention inventory, a version-controlled HARNESS.md with enforced constraints, and two garbage collection rules wired into your CI pipeline. Not slides. Not notes. Things that run on Monday morning.

More importantly, you will understand why the quality drift happens — the three silent debts that AI-assisted development accumulates faster than any review process was designed to catch — and you will have a systematic approach to stopping it.

What the day covers

  • Prompting is translation. When a prompt produces the wrong output it is almost never a tool failure. You will leave with a method for closing the gap between your intent and what the AI actually needs to hear.
  • Verification is a protocol, not a feeling. Thirty per cent of developers trust AI-generated code without meaningful verification — not because they are careless, but because AI output is optimised to look correct. You will leave with a four-level trust protocol calibrated to your domain.
  • What the AI infers from your codebase is not what you intend. Inconsistent patterns, decisions made in the negative space, conventions mid-migration — none of this is visible to the model. A structured five-question extraction interview surfaces it in 35 minutes. You will run it during the workshop.
  • The living harness. A harness is not a config file. It is the team's accumulated understanding made durable — version-controlled, enforced, and improving through every failure it catches. You will build the first version of yours before lunch.
